New Faculty Members

The division gained three new assistant professors this July, bringing the unit's total number of faculty members to 101.

Joining the Section of Evolution and Ecology is Sergey Nuzhdin a geneticist who uses the fruit fly Drosophila as a model to study how organisms maintain genetic variation. A native of Russia, Nuzhdin received his doctoral degree in 1992 from the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow. Most recently he was a research associate at North Carolina State University in Raleigh.

New to the Section of Molecular and Cellular Biology is Enoch Baldwin, a chemist by training who has gained considerable expertise in structural biology. He earned his Ph.D. in 1989 from UC Berkeley, and held research associate positions at the University of Oregon before coming to Davis.

Also joining the section is David Wilson, who was previously a researcher at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he received his Ph.D. in biochemistry in 1996. Wilson's expertise is also in structural biology.
