Biology Education GrantUC Davis was awarded in January a $1.77 million grant by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to create a program that will encourage and support underrepresented students academically and financially from the freshman undergraduate year through the second year of graduate school. Student involvement in biomedical research at all levels will be a key element of the program.Funding for the four-year grant is provided through the NIH Initiative for Maximizing Student Diversity. Principal investigator Merna Villarejo, a professor of microbiology, will oversee the program.
