The Two Sides of Perception Lynn Robertson, adjunct professor of neurology, member of the Center for Neuroscience, and former chair of the Neurosciences Graduate Program, has published with Richard Ivry, professor of psychology at UC Berkeley, The Two Sides of Perception (MIT Press). According to the authors, both the left and right hemispheres of the brain contribute to the performance of complex tasks that can account for a wide range of observed differences between the hemispheres.

The National Institutes of Health appointed Professor Raymond Rodriguez of Molecular and Cellular Biology to serve as a member of the newly established Advisory Committee on Research on Minority Health. The committee will provide advice to the institutes on research related to minority health, inclusion of minority group members as subjects in clinical research, and enhancement of minority participation in research and research training programs.

As a Beckman Young Investigator, John Bowman, assistant professor of plant biology, will receive $100,000 a year for two years beginning this July from the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation. The award is given to young scientists in their first three years of research to foster research in chemistry and the life sciences that will open up new avenues of research in science.
