Deborah Delmer, professor and chair of plant biology, was recently elected president of the American Society of Plant Physiologists for 1999-1000. She will begin a one-year term as president-elect of the organization this fall. The society, which has a membership that spans six continents, plays a key role in uniting the international plant science community.

Jerry Hedrick, professor of molecular and cellular biology, has been appointed associate dean for graduate studies. His areas of responsibility include graduate-student support and graduate-program planning, coordination, and funding. Hedrick joined the UC Davis faculty in 1965.
