Seed storage
Plant biology graduate student Sharon Kessler (right) retrieves corn seeds from the new Conviron Seed Storage Facility, located on the courtyard level of the Life Sciences Addition. This specialized unit was donated to UC Davis by Canadian-based Conviron, a world leader in the design and manufacture of plant growth chambers. The chambers give scientists like Kessler the ability to control light, temperature, and humidity levels, providing the optimal environment for plant cell research. Since 1994, Conviron has installed more than 100 plant growth chambers in the Life Sciences Addition and a nearby building, establishing one of the largest facilities of its kind at a research institution.
