AlumniGordon Conway, Ph.D., Zoology, 1969, has been named president of the Rockefeller Foundation, an international philanthropic organization based in New York that is dedicated to improving the well-being of people throughout the world. He will assume the position on April 1, 1998. Conway is currently vice chancellor of the University of Sussex in Brighton, England. An agricultural ecologist, he has lived and conducted research in countries throughout the world, including Malaysia, Thailand, and India, and was among the first to define the concept of sustainable agriculture. His book, The Doubly Green Revolution: Food for All in the 21st Century, was published in November 1996 by Penguin Books.James T. (Tim) Hollibaugh, B.S., Biochemistry, 1971, has joined the University of Georgia as associate director of the School of Marine Programs. He currently resides in Athens, Ga., with his wife and two sons. From 1983 to 1997, Hollibaugh was a research scientist at San Francisco State University, and for the past five years he directed the university's laboratory on San Francisco Bay. After graduating from UC Davis, he earned a Ph.D. in oceanography from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia and pursued postdoctoral studies at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Most of his work has been on the microbial ecology of coastal systems, particularly of San Francisco Bay and Tomales Bay. He recently edited San Francisco Bay: The Ecosystem, published in 1996 by the Pacific Division of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. David Schultz, B.S., Biological Sciences, 1976, is an optometrist practicing in San Luis Obispo, Calif. He was recently named "Retailer of the Year" by Eyecare Business Magazine, an honor bestowed to an optometrist for his or her use of distinctive business strategies in all aspects of retailing.
