UC Davis Biological Sciences Newsletter - Winter 1998

Dean's Message

In this issue, we highlight some of the ongoing research and educational programs in the division, with a focus on new developments in neuroscience and behavior. We also describe our advising services, which are designed to help students make good choices about their education and future careers. The division uses faculty, staff, and peer advisers at all stages of a student's progress through UC Davis, and we take great pride in the quality of the interactions. The campus is a large, complex place and the personal guidance provided by advisers is a big help to many students. Another story on enrollment in the biochemistry major reflects growing interest in the field as advances in biology and biotechnology lead to new opportunities in research, education, and business.

The response of alumni and parents to our ongoing campaign for the Life Sciences Addition has been gratifying. In the spring, we will be unveiling the four-story DNA sculpture, which serves as a symbol of the support we are receiving. It's not too late to be included as a sponsor!

We enjoy hearing from our many alumni and friends. The newsletter will continue to include notes about our alumni, and I encourage you to keep us up to date. If you are in the area, please stop by for a visit.
