StudentsBiological sciences major Marisa Stoller has taken to the slopes again this winter to compete as a professional snowboarder.
Right: A professional snowboarder sponsored by Santa Cruz Snowboards, Marisa Stoller has traveled as far away as Chile and Argentina to compete. The 24-year-old athlete became hooked on the sport the first time she tried it in 1993. The following year she placed first in the national competition for amateurs. For the past three years, she's been competing professionally. Stoller also works with photographers and filmmakers to capture snowboarding images for commerical publications and movies. Her own snowboarding talents were featured in the movie "Stomping Grounds." Stoller has been able to pursue both her undergraduate studies and a snowboarding career thanks to careful planning with the division's advising staff. For the past four years she has taken courses during the fall and summer, leaving the winter and spring for snowboarding competitions. She plans to complete her degree in the fall of 1998. After a few more years of professional snowboarding, she hopes to direct her energies toward a graduate or medical degree.
