English and General Education Courses
See pages 128 of your Schedule and Registration Guide for English WLD 57.
English, Comparative Literature, and University Writing Program course schedules may be found on pages 70, 54-55 and pg. 120, respectively.
GE course lists may be found on pages 123. If you have not met the Entry Level Writing requirement, it is best to complete Workload (English) 57 (WLD 57) as soon as possible. Workload 57 is a 4.5 unit course that carries only workload units. You must satisfy the Entry Level Writing requirement no later than the end of your third quarter on campus.
If you have met the Entry Level Writing requirement, you may wish to consider an elective such as UWP 1 or English 3, a comparative literature course, a freshman seminar, or any other course which interests you. Your freshman year is an excellent time to explore new areas of study. You may not receive GE writing course credit until the Entry Level Writing requirement is satisfied.
The General Education requirement at UC Davis can be completed in as few as six courses. Students do not need to complete all their GE course work in the first two years. Rather, it is often beneficial to use these GE courses to balance schedules heavy in science courses in later years.
You may also wish to access a list of elective courses without prerequisites (.pdf) for more course choice ideas.
Important: Lower-division courses are numbered 1-99 on this list and are appropriate for freshmen and sophomores. Upper-division courses (numbered 100-199) are best handled by junior and senior students. Freshmen usually lack the ability to compete favorably with upper-division students and to do well in these courses, even if the course does not have any prerequisites.
If you need workload classes take them!
